Martin Airey

A burglar from Herne Bay has been found guilty of carrying out two break ins in the town.

Martin Airey (49), of Queen Street, Herne Bay, broke into a property in Daytona Way on 5th June this year and left empty handed when confronted by the 80-year-old occupier in the living room.

Later the same day, he broke into another property in Hanover Street, ransacking the house and making off with jewellery that had been in the victims family for generations.

On 10th November, Airey was sentenced to 6 years in prison after being found guilty of two counts of burglary.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Richard Cordery said: ‘Like many burglars, Airey showed very little consideration for his victims. He stole items from one victim which were of great sentimental value and considered heirlooms. They included wedding and engagement rings, and were items which would have been linked to many cherished memories.  These items have not been recovered.
